Commercial Port of Vladivostok Handled Record Cargo Volume in 2017 – 7.5 Million Tons

Total cargo volume handled by Commercial Port of Vladivostok (the "Port", part of FESCO Transportation Group) in 2017 has grown by 33% compared with 2016 and has reached its maximum – 7.5 mln tons – marking the busiest year ever in the Port’s 120-year history.

The volume of containers handled by the Port in 2017 has increased by 42% up to 467,940 TEU, general cargos - by 43% and amounted to 2.99 mln tons, cars and heavy-duty vehicles – by 52% and reached 37,800 units compared with 2016.

“Based on the performance for 11 months and the forecast for December 2017 we expected the annual turnover to reach 7.2 mln tons, but the results achieved by the Port team have exceeded all the expectations – 7.5 mln tons. This all-time record has been set owing to a set of management decisions introduced in 2016, among them port infrastructure modernization and speeding up of all port operations. Moreover, we have established young, energetic and strong team which strives to get the highest possible results by providing the best solutions for the business challenges we face with”, said Zairbek Yusupov, the Port CEO and Vice President for FESCO Port Division.

In 2017 there have been taken a number of steps to increase efficiency of port operations: one-time storage capacity has been increased by optimization of port facilities, 24 new units of cargo handling gear have been purchased, open storage areas for grain have been expanded, container dwell time at the port has been decreased.

Two new container block trains to Krasnoyarsk and Ekaterinburg have been launched in cooperation with FESCO Transportation Group, number of container shuttles to Moscow has been increased. Another regular shipping service at the port has been launched by MCC Transport Singapore Pte Ltd (operated by MAERSK) connecting Commercial Port of Vladivostok with the ports of Djakarta, Surabaya, Hong Kong, Shenzhen, Ningbo, Shanghai, Gwangyang and Busan.

Modernization of port facilities and efficiency boosting will be continued in 2018, the full range of Customs clearance services will be provided by the port 24/7, container dwell time is expected to be decreased to 1-2 days.
