Commercial Port of Vladivostok will set up two new RMG cranes and increase container handling speed

Commercial Port of Vladivostok (part of the FESCO Transport Group) on October 1 received two new RMG (rail mounted gantry) cranes purchased for the container terminal as part of the production capacity modernization program. Equipment service entry is scheduled for December 24, 2018.

Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industries Co Ltd (ZPMC) cranes have a lifting capacity of 45 tons and a span of 63 meters each. The equipment can process 28 rows of containers and a stack of 5 containers high. The production capacity of the two cranes allows to perform up to 840 operations per day, which will increase the processing speed at the terminal rearwards by 15-20%.

New cranes were delivered to the port by a specialized vessel from Shanghai. The staff of Commercial Port of Vladivostok together with colleagues from ZPMC will build temporary rail tracks on the berth to set up the cranes, then a specialized vessel will reach the level of the berth wall due to water intake into the ballast tanks and the cranes will “move” to the container terminal territory. Unloading of the first crane is scheduled for October 5, the second - for October 12. After setting up the cranes on permanent rail tracks, ZPMC specialists will start service entry works, which will last until December 24. Technical works will not affect the operational activities of the port.

ZPMC cranes will be added to the four RMG cranes already operating at the container terminal. A total amount of 16 cranes of various types operate at the site and perform more than 6,400 containers moving operations daily.
